This challenge consists in the development of a Ku-band flat reflector antenna (RA) for a Moon altimetry mission, like the one considered in the 1st edition of the preliminary design competition.

The antenna is based on a reflectarray configuration to minimize occupied volume while in the undeployed stage. It is designed to operate in the Ku-band, and it is compatible with linear or circular polarization. The prototype size is 216 mm x 168 mm x 5 mm, producing a fixed 25 dBi gain beam. It uses all-metal unit cells, to make the design compatible also with other Earth orbit missions, where dielectric based antennas might be susceptible to electrostatic charge buildup and arcing.
